We have just spent 2 weeks in South Island of New Zealand and hired out motor home through Mark.

He was professional all the way through with excellent communication. The van was perfect for our family of 6, plenty of room with heaps of bedding, it was fresh and clean. The solar panel did its job really well, kept the fridge cold at all times. The large windows in this motor home made viewing this amazing countryside very easy.

Pick up and drop off was made extremely easy. Rhys, Marks's son looked after us from the minute we landed at Christchurch airport and as it was our first time renting a motor home he was patient and diligent. Mark made the drop off very easy for us at the airport. He kept in contact with us to make sure we were going okay.

I would highly recommend this company for your next motor home adventure in New Zealand. We will definitely be back and will rent through this company again. Thanks very much Mark, it was an absolute pleasure dealing with you.

After four weeks in a campervan, that we rent from Mark Boberg.

We just wanted to write some words about our experiences. Mark was and is a great guy!

Despite we had some little issues with the campervan it was one of the most magnificent vacation we have had. In the four weeks Mark earned our trust and gratitude more than once. Everytime we needed something from him he was available almost immediatelly and presented us a proper solution for our question or task. (e.g. it was easy to reshedule the pick up location for the campervan, )

Appart from this he was more than generous with the discount he gave us because the issues we had with the van. He even invited us to his house, gave us the campervan one day longer than we have rented it (without extra charge) and brought us the the airport although it was not stipulated. Mark ist a kind, honest and trustworthy person and I am looking forward to see him again when he is visiting Europe.

I loved it & would travel again like this.

However not my Hubby. We had to use the top bunk mattress to make the bed somewhat comfortable! 4 birth great space for 2 adults and bags etc .Ummm cramped otherwise if 4 of you.

We had a Britz van with loads of scratched and bangs on it so took pre-hire pictures so to safeguard us!! Front seats did not swivel round as in guide manual !! Disappointed as we couldn't entertain our friends and had to eat in their Maui van. Had all items needed to cook but grill really poor. Took 8 mins to toast bread ! Gave up with bacon !!

Would have liked to just pull up in any lay-by for night, like in Australia! So worked out an expensive week booking into campsites as free sites were booked out.🙃

Really impressed as a Very clean country everywhere we went.

Best campsite ever - kiwi holiday park in Wanaka.

Bluebridge Ferry staff really kind and helpful.

Met at the airport by the company owner's son.

Quite relaxed and helpful. Good advice about our first stop on the way out.

As we expected, given the budget price, the van was not brand new, though quite comfortable, mechanically up to the task and good value for money. The on-board solar panel meant we never really had to plug in at a commercial camp ground and could take full advantage of the Freedom Camping available in New Zealand. Big windows let in the great outdoors.

This is a small family-run business, if you prefer not to deal with the big companies. It is run in a very relaxed and flexible manner. The owner Mark is very responsive to all emails and texts. Be sure to contact him before pick up and drop off to confirm arrangements, as there is no depot at the airport. If you appreciate you are dealing with a small operation and maintain good communication it should go smoothly.

    Overall great value for money.

based on informations we received from friends, we decided to make use of campers for our holiday trip through new zealand, so we took the campervans from mark for our journey, which fitted quite good

for us. during our very fascinating and wonderful trip through the north and the south island we had some minor challenges with the cars, but luckily for us, mark was available for us all the time. whenever we had a problem, we just needed to call or text him and he provided us good solutions (even during the holidays), so we were able to keep on track during our roundtrip. despite the age of the vehicle, we were able to keep up with our tight plan and we even received a discount at the end for our small troubles.

overall it was an amazing holiday with wonderful moments and an astonishing scenery and we were lucky to meet mark. he is an amazing and very nice guy, who helped us all the time with kindness and honesty.

Do not do business with these people.

They were extremely friendly while we were making the arrangements and when we picked up the van but completely dissolved as soon as they were paid...

First let me say we have over 1000 nights in our own campervan in US. We picked up a Jupiter camper van in Auckland. We were told the propane tank was empty and there was a leak in the hot water system. They said get the LPG tank filled and they'd credit us $20. They also said they would arrange for the plumbing repair in Thames since we were heading up the Coromandel. They promised a one day rental credit for this 2nd inconvenience. We had to return the van a day early in Christchurch because the roof vent leaked water onto the bed 3 nights in a row. We got a motel room instead. When owner came to pick up the van we asked for a credit for the last night but this we also did not receive. We, to this day, have never received either of promised credit card refunds even after twice contacting the company owner via email and text. No response at all.

How was the van? It was old and funky but ran well. We liked the overall design. There is only a roof vent for ventilation. There was a partial window in the camper section that could be opened but didn't have a screen so we couldn't use it for the sand flies. We finally bought $50 worth of screen and magnets so we could leave the back hatch open for some flow through air when parked. Also, we couldn't drive with the windows open because of a very dank smell from even a clean toilet - something to do with how the toilet vented I'm assuming. Fortunately the AC worked fine. The cushions on the benches were worn out so the lower bed was very uncomfortable. They were also filthy as was the carpet. This van obviously had not had a good cleaning in quite some time.

The good news... even with this camper we still had an awesome time in NZ and will return for further exploration - just not with this company.

Well Mark Boberg, I have given you 6 weeks to refund the $840 you promised, I guess your words "I am a straight guy who treats people the way I wish to be treated" are just empty and hollow.

We hired an 8 year old 6 berth Ducato based campervan from Mark Boberg of Adventure Vans for 6 months @ $16000

    From the start:

The van was filthy, all the crockery needed cleaning before use, some bowls had thick mould.

The toilet didn't flush and it stank.

Van leaked from roof, two windows and side door.

Camping table and two chairs broken. I repaired.

    Grill broken. I repaired

    Ant infestation.

    Bed broken. I repaired.

    Electric kettle with no lead.

    AC did not work.

Van had been in an accident, front panel out of alignment.

Overall interior appearance was pretty tatty and tired. There were so many things we just didn't notice in the 20 minute hand over.

    During our trip:

We had a puncture so called out a mechanic, the mechanic informed us that it was in fact the wheel itself that had a crack and the tyre was illegal anyway being bald on the inner rim. The spare wheel was used and a new tyre fitted, we now had no spare wheel. Incidentally, the tyre on the spare wheel was also illegal with the steel cords exposed.

We had a second puncture - no spare!

Total cost of replacing tyres cost us nearly $540.

The water pump broke so the van was in the garage for two days which meant we had to stay in a B&B for two nights. Cost to us $240 for the B&B. Mark Boberg paid the water pump bill direct to the garage on completion of work. The mechanic at the garage was scathing about the lack of maintenance on the van.

    In summary:

We had an awesome trip in NZ and were able to put some of the minor inconveniences and defects to one side. However, the condition of the wheel and tyres were potentially life threatening.

    Our thoughts on Adventure Vans:

Amateurish small players in the rental scene with no customer care. Mark Boberg is deceitful, dishonest, dishonourable and a charlatan.

Too long to mention all the issues from our campervan...

From waterfalls inside the cabin (through our closed windows and the sliding door), holes in the structure where dust and cold air enters to the cabin... We also never used the shower/toilet because it was always smelly even if we never used it. During the trip one window fell out and the mechanic told us that this failure was done years before with several repairs... We wait for them in our hotel and they delayed more than 6 hours the pick up and the delivery of the motorhome. The owner Mark Boberg was really an awful person. He also made us to drive the campervan with him before giving us the keys as he said that he doesn't know if we were able to do it (we area 35 year old couple that have been driving in Europe and around the globe with cars, caravans and motorbikes... but he said that New Zealand is different... Sure...Try to drive in Paris, Madrid or Milano.... shame) He never listened to our problems and he also charged all the money even with the delays on the pick up, the problems on the road and his bad manners talking to us. We rented the campervan for a month and we completely regret it, more than 3000€ on a terrible old van converted to a motorhome.

We collected the camper from Queenstown and the first thing that happened was that the sliding side door wouldn't shut.

The agent took it to a local garage, leaving us with his car at the supermarket. We eventually got the camper back but it was a bodged repair and we could only open the door from the outside. The camper would not charge the service battery, so no fridge unless plugged into the mains and there was no promised solar panel. The power steering fluid dropped to a dangerous level and radiator coolant dripped into the cab. The driver's seat was worn and we could not adjust the passenger wing mirror. The cold water was very HOT after a drive and conversely the hot water was not heated when connected to the mains. It was poorly equipped with insufficient cutlery etc for two people. We paid top money for this van on the understanding it was fully refurbished but we were sadly disappointed.

As a postscript to this review we did receive good financial compensation following our complaints.

Had a great holiday with my girlfriend.

The van was perfect in size for 2 people! Thanks to the solar panel we had hot water and a perfectly working fridge. The bed was comfortable and big enough for 3 so we had plenty of space. Also the kitchen was wokring well!

It was surley not the latest and cleanest campervan but for the price it was great!

We got a pick up from the hotel in Auckland. The staff was very friendly and showed us how everything was working in the campervan. When we returned the van in Christchurch Mark drove us back to the hotel where we stayed.

    All in all: perfect holidays!

In the end the van got us from a to b, not sure if it was all legal.

Paying full price for an old model van with smells I don't care to think what they may be. Waited over 1hr for pick up at airport, left with no diesel, thought we were getting vehicle at airport and going on our way, no, had to go back to depot. Meanwhile with 3 kids, trying to get car seats fitted to non existent anchor points, had to secure car seat with rope! So van did seem mechanically sound although clutch about to die and tyres wearing thin very quickly. Then to top it all off were told we would need to swap van for a hire car for the last day....we ignored that - seriously???!!!! Then dropped off van at airport to Mark, a hello or a little conversation goes a long way??!! Rushed out of the way, bags dumped and he was off! Wouldn't recommend.
