Guided tour - 22km – 3 hours return
This is a very scenic seaside ride heading south along coast from the old Opoutama station site at Mahia.
The 22km ride starts out for a couple of kilometres right beside the sea passing over the Waikokopu lagoon, still used by fishing boats as a safe anchorage and beachgoers as a sandy swimming spot.
A 2km climb follows the valley up to Blacks beach where the track continues to follow the spectacular coastline with sweeping views out to Mahia peninsular and south to Hawkes Bay.
At the 6km mark the line heads inland through pastural farmland, across the Nuhaka river bridge, rebuilt at great expense after an overweight work crane toppled from the bridge while undertaking repair work.
