If you do not like walking take this gondola, it takes you up to the hill from which you can see how big Christchurch is.

Lovely lakes on the other side.

The ride itself is not spectacular, but the view from the top and the Bridle Path to Lyttelton were great.

Way too expensive for such a short ride.

Not easy to find the track we wanted - need more signs/information. But awesome location and view!

As we did not have our van yet, we decided to take the bus to the gondola.

This offered nice views and an introduction of mountains to come in New Zealand. It was a bit pricey though.

    Nice view over Banks Peninsula.

From the top, you are able to walk down or go back by gondola. Prices could be down a bit.

Long enough to enjoy the view on a clear day.

We enjoyed the tour inside the top of the gondola and took a one way fare and walked down to Lyttelton Coffee Company.

Quite expensive for such a short ride. There is a road just behind the top of the Gondola you can go up and get to the same place for free.

Great hikes in the area as well.

A local bus will take you to the base of the Gondola, which soars up to a lovely mountain vista.

From the top, you are able to explore as you see fit, with a number of lovely walks traversing down to the city or beyond. Indeed, you might like to skip the Gondola entirely and simply walk up, taking up to an hour uphill. The adventurous can even mountabike down, via a third party hire company that is both cheap and without time restrictions.

A scenic journey up to the top of some stunning views over christchurch and Lytleton.

A choice if a few lengthy walks, a short informative ride on the formation of the spit. A big resturant and a solviner shop.
