Fantastic place, the view and the atmosphere is unbeatable.
Very basic - level plot with gravel, but if you're self contained that's all you need. The pristine beach is a gem, please don't taint it. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean is really something special.

MAGICAL.
One-night stay in an RV. Level ground. Four or so other campers and so quiet. Take bug spray for sand flies and watch a sunset like no other hitting the views of Mt Cook and the alps in the distance. We had a BBQ during the magic hour and had a walk along a pristine beach. Please keep it that way, this is a very special place. Very romantic and peaceful.

Absolutely stunning spot.
It's just a square of gravel, but it's flat and the views are lovely. If you have a 4x4 go explore the beach (stay in the wheel tracks). Or take a walk. Per other reviews, sandflies are a pain, otherwise, brilliant.

Great little stop for one night by the beach.
It was not too windy but can imagine it might be a little dicey in a storm. No toilet but we were self contained so didn't worry us.

This is located down the end of Kakapotahi beach road.
A square gravel area about 40 mtrs by 40 mtrs. Was only 1 other vehicle there when we stayed. Pitch black at night as there isnt a house in sight. The beach is a few hundred metres from parking area. No facilities here. There is a small swamp on the left as you start you walk to the sea which gives awesome reflections of mnt cook

A good quiet spot for the night, with mountain views and a gorgeous sunset.
No facilities, but worth it for the peaceful location. Sandflies were a menace once the wind calmed, but otherwise recommend.

Great spot.
Amazing sunset, even with no cloud. Walk on the beach had the kids covered in sand.

Very senic little spot!
Epic views of the hills and close to the beach, not an extreme amount of mozzies but bring repellent.

Not sure why there aren’t reviews here, the lot was almost full but we got a great spot at 6 pm.
Thank you local council! Drive to end of Beach Rd. Clean portable toilets. Close to beach, lovely views of wetlands & farmland.

Epic.
Seems like you drive into nowhere then arrive at a car part near a gorgeous deserted beach. Views all around. This would be perfect on a sunny day, wish we got there earlier. Don’t arrive late though, the 15 van max rule is enforced by the grey haired pitchfork brigade that turn up just before dark, after a good nosey around. They didn’t bother us as we got there early, but saw them block the road and turn people away. Guess they are trying to enforce the rules after trying to not have free campsite there. Anyway this place is perfect! Exactly what we were looking for in NZ and I’d encourage anyone to stay there if they get a spot. It was quiet when we arrived around 4pm.

Wilderness and camping trip by the beach.
This is what you expect from New Zealand camping in the wild by the advertisements New Zealand roles out across the world. Max 15 spots and enforced by the locals each night struggling to keep it wild and free and clean.
Before this local crew, 30+ would turn up in those pretend self-contained cars and then proceed to shit all over the beach, light fires and play music to the early hours. Apparently there is even a few companies offering money back if you don't use the onboard toilet... What a piss take the locals, the land and those in truly self contained motor homes...
If you cannot afford a proper campervan then don't get one. Use a tour bus instead! I did 15 years ago with a friend and it was one of the best experiences of my travels back then...
Such a simple problem with an easy fix, it's almost as if the NZ government is messing it up on purpose!

Free, next to beach.
Did have 3 tents on arrival right after dark. Since it says max 15 vehicles, there was room for us. Every spot has a wooden marker left or rightside of the lot. Very clean dixies (portable toilet) which was a suprise. Great site to spend thee night going up or down from/to glacierarea. Few km gravelroad to get to spot. It's a bit further than map shows. Just keep driving to the end of the road. Watch the birds crossing the road!!
