Mores Lookout Track
1 km return | 30 minutes return
Mores Reserve was gazetted in 1907 and sits atop the hill overlooking Riverton. It is an enticing viewpoint close to Riverton.
Walking Track
Access
In Riverton, on the western side of the Aparima River, follow the signs along Bay Road towards Riverton Rocks. After 400 metres, turn right at the signpost to Mores Reserve, then after 300 metres head right. The road bears left and becomes unsealed after a further 300 metres, then begins to climb for 1.5 km to the parking area with toilets and picnic area at the summit. The tracks are signposted from the picnic area.
The track starts from the top of the loop at the parking area.
Track
The well-formed track is often metalled and covered with boardwalks as it weaves through the forest to the lookout platform on Mores Hill.
Flora
The attractive three-tiered forest is sheltered by a dense canopy of kamahi. Pate, coprosmas, fuchsia and wheki are amongst the understorey plants, which form the mid-tier above crown ferns on the forest floor.
European History
The viewing platform was constructed by the Lions and looks west over to Colac Bay.
