600 m return | 20 minutes return
A rare remnant of coastal forest with stands of convoluted totara. It is a sudden arrival at the coastal flax with wind-whipped shrubs standing defiant to the westerlies.
9 km south of Hokitika, Manaia Bush Walk is signposted towards the coast.
There is a small parking area.
The track winds through thick coastal forest with the smell of the sea greeting you through the greenery.
One totara by the trackside has a branch doubled over on itself.
