I'm Marios, delivering the best of Aotearoa's nature walks to your device.
I've personally walked hundreds of New Zealand's tracks and spent months in libraries uncovering interesting information on New Zealand/Aotearoa. And you'll find a slice of that research on this page - enjoy!
approx 2 km return | 45 minutes return
A delightful set of cascades tumble down the rocky river course and empty into a series of swimming holes. Head upstream for the larger pools.
From S.H.2 at Aongatete, turn into Wright Road, which becomes unsealed. Bear right after 8.5km and the parking area is a further 200 metres. Access to all tracks is from behind the toilet block in the Aongatete Lodge grounds.
You will need to walk up the gravel driveway for 5 minutes from the parking area and pass through the lodge buildings to the signpost.
The start of the track is signposted to the right of the other tracks.
The track is wide, but can be slippery over clay and muddy in places. After 15 minutes, fork left at the signpost, from where the track descends to the Aongatete River. You will have to scramble over banks to reach the river.
There are many other tracks here at Aongatete and you can spend a day exploring the forests and streams.
