Te Puia Daytime Experience

Our heritage

Te Puia is located in the beautiful Te Whakarewarewa thermal valley. See silica terraces, bubbling mud pools and unique geothermal vegetation. View the world famous Pohutu Geyser erupting from the ground up to 30 meter’s high – an awesome display of mother nature’s power. Ten to twenty times a day it bursts into life; a tourist attraction since the early 1900’s.

Great experience and I'd suggest to use the guided tours starting every hour on the hour.

A maori guide explained us interesting things on geothermal phenomenon and Maori culture. Beside the thermal park you can see an art and crafts center.

    Spectacular geysers!

The park itself is not really big but some nice walks. Go see the Kiwi and if interested, the Maori Culture show.

We really enjoyed the performance (song and dance), the geyser was awe-inspiring and the kiwi bird adorable.

The plaques were informative, the food on offer could have been healthier.

A pity that these nature beauties have to be watched from behind fences.

Unfortunately, we missed the Maori cultural show - might have been nice.

Conveniently located with awesome geysers, thermal vents, along with cultural activities.

Doing the free guided tour is a must! Slightly touristy and over priced, but overall a great stop to see thermal activity.

For $50, you can get entry to the Te Puia for the whole day.

There are really nice geysers and you get great information about Maori Culture.

I really enjoyed seeing the eruptions of the different geysers around the park.

As well, I got to see a Maori performance which was impressive but a bit short. Overall quite expensive.

Insight into Maori Culture while being open about tourism being an industry.

Knowledgeable guides with a great combination of fact, fiction, culture and childhood anecdotes. I would recommend a bit of reading into the history but the whole park includes geysers, kiwi, maori buildings and performance plus the art, history and creation story.

    Wonderful experience.

Entrance fee is a bit expensive considering the currency exchange rate. Could not see anything in the Kiwi bird viewing as it was very dark. Highlight of the day is the famous geysier. Guided tour is available for Free. I prefer the male tourguide as his speech is more interesting and he is the direct descendent of a famous warrior (cant remember the name thou).

The Maori show was also a plus although it was very pricey considering how much you get out of it.
